A full 52-card deck is used. All 13 cards are dealt to each of the four players at the start of every deal. Cards are dealt anti-clockwise. No cards are left in a central stack.
Bidding Phase
After seeing their hand, each player declares a bid between 1 and 13 — the number of tricks they commit to winning that deal. A bid of less than 1 is not permitted. Bids are placed simultaneously and cannot be changed after submission.
Spades as Trump
Spades (♠) are always the permanent trump suit in Callbreak Quick. You cannot change the trump suit. A spade card beats any card from the other three suits, regardless of face value.
Leading a Trick
The player to the dealer's right leads the first trick. You may lead with any card except a spade — unless spades are all you have left. In subsequent tricks, the winner of the previous trick leads next.
Following Suit
You must follow the led suit if you hold a card of that suit. If you cannot follow suit, you must play a spade if you have one. Only if you have neither the led suit nor a spade may you discard any other card.
Winning a Trick
The highest card of the led suit wins the trick — unless a spade was played, in which case the highest spade wins. The winner collects the trick face-down and leads the next one.
